Thor is back on the big screen and it feels like it has been a while since we’ve spent time with the Asgardian God of Thunder. His last solo effort was 2017’s Thor Ragnarok but we last saw Thor in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. His latest outing, Thor: Love and Thunder, once again directed by Taika Waititi is in theaters this week.
In the entirety of the MCU it might be Thor which has seen the biggest change in tone over their movies. From the Shakespearian drape-drama from Kenneth Brannagh, to the whatever The Dark World was, to a much more colourful and comedic approach by Taiki Waititi with Ragnarok.
This redefined approach relied heavily on Waititi’s strenghts of combining a great blend of humor, an immaculate music playlist and just the right amount of pulled heartstrings. For Love and Thunder all of these qualities are turned up to 11. Waititi manages to once again brand the MCU with his personal stamp, just likes James Gunn’ Guardians of the Galaxy, but with feelings, unlike Sam Reimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which was all style and no substance. He truly is the MCU’s GOAT. 🐐 🐐
This movie rocks. And I’m not just talking about the music. Without giving too much away, Love and Thunder manages to bring a powerful story, with characters we know and care about, mixed with some new faces who I am totally ready to welcome in the MCU. You get mighty heroes, a terrifying villain, perfect music, great laughs, proper goosebumps moments and some emotional tears. Thor: Love And Thunder is guaranteed Worthy and gets 5 out of 5 hammers!
As usual, stick around for maybe the two greatest post-credit scenes in MCU history.
