Walt Disney Imagineering had quite a panel at South By Southwest this past weekend and you probably saw sprinkles of news or all of it, but we thought we compile all that you missed here just in case. The annual event held in Austin, Texas, brings in innovators, entertainers, and artists from all over the world. Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro along with Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman were on hand along with many special guests to share the latest that they’re working on.
And of course you can watch the entire panel if you’d like! Click Here!

BDX Droids
The pesky droids that debut at Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge made an appearance at SXSW. Director Jon Favreau was joined by Imagineers Leslie Evans and Asa Kalama to talk illusions from the films that become reality in the parks. The BDX droids will also be making their rounds, appearing at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. On top of all that, they will have an appearance in the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu feature film, debuting May 22, 2026.
Jon Favreau also introduced a new Anzellan character named Auto, who will appear in the film working on the BDX droids.

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’s first attraction will finally get a new mission to tie in with the new film Mandalorian and Grogu, which will debut in 2026. On the same day as the film, you can go into the parks and experience the update to the attraction as well. Take a look at some concept art of what Smuggler’s Run will feature, including familiar planets of Tatooine and Bespin, but also the wrecked Death Star near Endor.

Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter, and Imagineer Michael Hundgen brought updates to two new Pixar-themed attractions to Walt Disney World. The first highlight brings a new Monsters, Inc. inspired land to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and within that land is a brand new rollercoaster that takes place in the Monsters, Inc door vault… and that coaster includes a vertical lift, the first of its kind! It’s also the first suspended roller coaster in a Disney Park too.

Frontierland Cars at Magic Kingdom
On the road to Frontierland in Magic Kingdom is a new Pixar Cars attraction set outside of Radiator Springs. This thrilling off-road rally race will take you through the wild terrains across mountain trails where you can dodge geysers and splash through mudholes. Get ready to meet all new characters created for the attraction, in addition to your favorites like Lightning McQueen and Mater.

Fantastic Four: First Steps Comes to Disneyland’s Tomorrowland
President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, and President and Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney Imagineering Bruce Vaughn came to the stage to talk the next steps, of First Steps (Fantastic Four). Kevin Feige said that Walt’s vision of the future that can be found in Tomorrowland and Epcot was a key inspiration for their upcoming film, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and soon, guests will be able to meet the entire Fantastic Four family – Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm at Disneyland’s Tomorrowland this summer. Walt Disney Imagineering is also working on a H.E.R.B.I.E. robot as well!

Avengers Infinity Defense
Walt Disney Imagineering recently broke ground on a massive update to Avengers Campus in California, doubling the size of the land with two new attractions. The first one is Avengers Infinity Defense, where you travel with the largest collection of Avengers ever assembled in one attraction (including Black Panther, Ant-Man, Hulk, and many more) through multiple worlds to battle King Thanos.

Stark Flight Lab
Iron Man himself, Robert Downey, Jr. stepped onto the stage to introduce the next attraction coming to California’s Avengers Campus: Stark Flight Lab. In Stark Flight Lab, guests will sit in “gyro-kinetic pods” and roll along a track before stopping in front of a giant robot arm. This robot arm will hoist you into the air where you’ll make several high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and some other Avengers. It’s the first attraction of its kind to transfer from track to robot arm and back again. Robert Downey, Jr. closed with telling the audience “This isn’t a one-time deal. You need more me.”, with verbal confirmations from Josh D’Amaro and Bruce Vaughn.

With all that coming, what are you most excited about?
